This visualization uses a playful style to highlight a surprising fact: in Romania, there is almost one sheep for every two people.

Sheep farming has been part of Romanian life for generations and is still important today. Eurostat reports that in 2019, Romania was fourth in Europe and third in the EU for sheep numbers. By 2022, the country had 10.4 million sheep, which made up 17% of the EU’s total sheep population (59.5 million). Even with so many sheep, people in Romania eat only about 2.7 kg of sheep or goat meat per year on average, mostly during Easter.

The visualization is simple, using AI-generated sheep illustrations to make it more fun and engaging. This project shows that a good visualization does not have to be complicated or use advanced data. Focusing on one surprising fact and supporting it with the right visuals can be more memorable than a complex analysis with many variables.

The project works well because it uncovers an interesting story hidden in everyday agricultural data.
