Women have shaped the art world in profound ways, yet their contributions are often underrepresented in mainstream narratives. I wanted to challenge that by creating this interactive map of 346 contemporary women artists from the Artcyclopedia database, visualizing their primary disciplines, ages, generational cohorts, and continents of birth.
This project is a blend of data storytelling, design, and personal curiosity, an experiment in using data to uncover patterns and connections that might otherwise go unnoticed. By mapping these artists, I aimed to create a visual tribute to their diversity and impact, offering a new way to explore their presence in the global art scene.
For me, this isn’t just a dataset, it’s a way to engage with representation in art through a fresh, data-driven perspective.
