For years, I have tried different ways to visualize election results, and I have found a lot of inspiration in German visualizations. I am drawn to their elegant simplicity, with carefully chosen colors, minimalist design, and excellent typography that make the maps clear and easy to understand, without any extra decoration.

 

Romania’s 2024 elections brought big changes across local, parliamentary, European, and presidential races. In this divided political climate, I wanted to build a tool that helps people understand these complex patterns. The Electoral Atlas does more than just show data; it lets users explore voter turnout, election results, and political polarization in detail for all recent elections.

 

Besides creating the visualizations, I also built the website and set up real-time data updates. During the election, I updated the data by hand every hour for three days, from Friday to Sunday while voting was happening. This took a lot of effort, but it kept the resource up to date and useful throughout the election.
