This project, together with my infographic on generational patterns among heads of state, became one of my most popular pieces on Visual Capitalist. The idea was simple but engaging: looking at how countries have moved from paper to polymer banknotes over the last thirty years.
I especially enjoyed showing the different events that countries chose to commemorate on their new polymer notes. This cultural angle makes the story more meaningful, turning it from a technical look at currency materials into something richer.
Switching from paper to polymer currency is more than just a technical upgrade. It shows how priorities around security, durability, and environmental impact are changing. By tracking this global shift, the visualization highlights an important moment in how we represent value with physical money.
