Into Scrollytelling

Learn to think, design, and build interactive visual stories.

December 3Scroll

Hi, I'm Edit!

I'm an information designer, and I love turning complex information into interactive visual stories.

I've created quite a few over the years, using all kinds of tools. But my favorite part isn't the technology.

It's figuring out how to tell the story.

Where it all begins

Most projects begin with a lot of information, a few questions, and some rough sketches.

Before thinking about animations or code, I look for the story, decide what matters, and work out how people should experience it.

A good interactive story needs a clear direction before it needs a tool.

From an idea to a visual experience

Then comes the creative part. I explore visual metaphors, shapes, colors, layouts, and ways to guide people through the information.

I sketch scenes, test transitions, and build a visual language that fits the story.

Only then do I turn to tools and code to bring those ideas to life.

The tools help me build it. The creative decisions give it meaning.

Let's build one together!

That's exactly what we'll explore in my live workshop, Into Scrollytelling.

We'll find a story, shape its narrative, develop a visual direction, and plan how each scene unfolds. Then we'll use Claude Code to turn those decisions into a first interactive prototype.

No programming experience needed.

A good scrollytelling experience starts before the first line of code.

AI can help us build interactive experiences faster than ever. But knowing what to build, how it should look, and how the story should unfold still takes creative thinking.

In this workshop, I'll share the process I use to turn information into visual stories, from the first sketches to a working interactive prototype.

We'll make the narrative and design decisions first, then use Claude Code to bring them to life.

What we'll do together

01

Find and shape the story

We'll start with a guided example and figure out what matters, what to leave out, and how to organize the information into a narrative that unfolds as you scroll.

02

Design the visual experience

We'll explore how to choose a visual direction, from graphic forms and color to hierarchy, composition, and visual metaphors.

Then we'll sketch a storyboard: what each scene shows, what changes, and how the visuals build on one another.

03

Bring it to life

We'll use Claude Code and a prepared starter project to turn our creative decisions into a first interactive prototype.

You'll learn how to give clear instructions, review the result, and refine what doesn't work.

The goal isn't just to make something move. It's to make every movement mean something.

What you'll leave with

  • A narrative and visual direction for the guided project.
  • A simple interactive storyboard.
  • A first working prototype built with Claude Code.
  • A practical toolkit to help you develop your own projects afterward.

The toolkit includes planning worksheets, a visual design brief, storyboard templates, a starter project, and a technical implementation guide.

You'll also receive a separate 30-minute technical walkthrough to revisit the process at your own pace.

This is an introduction, not a promise to master interactive development in four hours. You'll leave with a process you can reuse and a starting point you can continue improving.

Who is this for?

Journalists, designers, researchers, communications professionals, and anyone interested in turning information into interactive visual stories.

You don't need programming experience or an established design style.

We'll work through one guided project, so you don't need to bring your own data or arrive with a finished idea.

Hi, I'm Edit.

I'm an information designer and the founder of Egas Studio.

I've created more than 250 infographics and 60 interactive projects for publishers, businesses, and organizations.

I've worked with many tools over the years, but the most important part of my process has always happened before implementation: finding the story, exploring visual ideas, and figuring out how people should experience the information.

That's the thinking I want to share with you.

A few practical questions

Do I need to code?

No previous coding experience is required. We'll use Claude Code with a prepared starter project. You'll receive setup instructions beforehand.

Will I finish a project?

You'll work toward a first interactive prototype using the guided example. It won't be a polished publication, but you'll have a practical starting point and resources for continuing.

Do I need to bring my own data?

No. Everything needed for the guided exercises will be provided.

Is this a Claude Code course?

Not primarily. Claude Code is the implementation tool. The workshop focuses on the narrative and visual decisions that guide what we build.

Are there additional technical costs?

Claude Code may require a paid subscription or usage charges. You'll receive the requirements before the workshop so you can prepare.

What participants say

Feedback from participants in my previous workshop, Designul informației în rapoarte (Information Design in Reports). Translated from Romanian.

A very well-structured course, with a good balance between theory and practical examples. I left with concrete insights that I can apply right away in my communication work.

I went to the course expecting to learn a new skill, but it was much more than that: it shifted my perspective. I applied to data visualization the question that should underlie any communication work: what do I actually want to convey?

It was amazing to see how a simple bar chart can be turned into a design that actually tells a story. I became aware of the power of visual storytelling in untangling complex datasets.

Data-driven storytelling starts with the right questions, not with choosing a chart. Data doesn’t speak for itself: we build the story behind it. A very clear course, well structured and easy to apply in communication.

One of the most beautiful and comprehensive presentations: every topic with a beginning and an end, concrete examples at every step, and detailed explanations of the tools provided.

Bring the story. We'll figure out how it unfolds.
